"The player has signed a contract with the club for the next six seasons, running to the 30th of June 2025".

Real Madrid have taken their summer spending close to the £300 million mark after announcing their fifth signing of the transfer window so far: Lyon left-back Ferland Mendy.

Los Blancos announced the arrival of the France global on a deal until June 2025, with Lyon confirming they have received €48 million (A$78 million) up front with a further €5 million (A$8 million) in add-ons.

The defender will be presented to the fans next Wednesday at 13:00 (local time) at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Two years ago, he was in the second division and now he will play at Real Madrid", Deschamps said of Mendy, who joined Lyon from Le Havre for £4.5m in 2017.

The arrival of Mendy brings the total of new signings up to four ahead of the 2019/20 season.

The club have already signed Belgium forward Eden Hazard from Chelsea for a fee that could exceed £150m and Serbia striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt for a reported £53m.
