Even cooler is that the senior team behind Paramount Animation is largely made up of women, which feels appropriately fierce and feminist given the Spice Girls' longtime message of girl power. But here's the catch: The reunion will be in an animated movie.

It has been nearly 22 years since the premiere of the Spice Girls debut film, Spiceworld: The Movie, and The Hollywood Reporter now brings word that the British girl group legend are planning to make a comeback to the big screen in their own animated feature in collaboration with Paramount Animation. It will be produced by Simon Fuller and written by Karen McCullah and Kirsten "Kiwi" Smith (Legally Blonde).

The Spice Girls are finally making their triumphant return to movie theaters over 20 years after the release of Spice World.

A new Spice Girls movie is in early development at Paramount Animation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paramount Animation president Mireille Sofia told The Hollywood Reporter that all five Spice members "had an idea that [they've] been developing" and are "very involved" in the project, which now has no release date. Starting off are The SpongeBob Movie: It's a Wonderful Sponge (May 2020) and Rumble (July 2020), which is based on Rob Harrell's graphic novel Monster on a Hill.
