The Atari VCS retro gaming console will feature more than 100 of all-time favorite arcade titles, such as Asteroids, Breakout, Centipede, Gravitar, Missile Command, and Yars' Revenge, as well as a bunch of other new Atari games like Tempest 4000.

Atari has partnered with GameStop and Walmart to open up general pre-orders for its upcoming Atari VCS console, which will ship in March 2020 after the initial round of pre-orders arrive later this year.

Once launched, though, the Atari VCS crowdfunding campaign proved popular: The device quickly broke through its funding goal and has now raised more than $4 million, originally on the promise that backers would receive hardware early this year.

There are two differently-specced Atari VCS models up for grabs; the entry-level model - the Atari VCS 400 Onyx with 4GB RAM - can be picked up for $249.99, while the higher-spec the Atari VCS 800 with 8GB RAM costs $279.99. And buying an all-inclusive 800 model with both controllers will cost you $389.

If you want the most traditional-looking Atari experience, the version sold directly by Atari is your best bet, coming in a retro Black Walnut design.

The Atari VCS runs an AMD processor with Radeon Vega graphics, and supports 4K video output for streaming video as well as for games. It will be available in three different styles - a wood grain finish hearkening back to the original design is available only from Atari; an all-black version, called "Onyx", can be ordered from Atari and GameStop; Walmart will offer it in "Kevlar Gold". The company has, however, showcased its software dashboard and what it describes as 'Atari Sandbox Mode, ' which allows third-party software to be installed on and run on the console's Linux-based operating system.
