The University of MI baseball team advanced to the NCAA College World Series on Sunday night after the Wolverines stunned No. 1-ranked UCLA, 4-2, in the winner-take-all game of the Super Regional series at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

UCLA, which hadn't lost a weekend series all season, put the tying run at second base with two outs, but Ben Keizer induced a ground ball to shortstop Jack Blomgren, who dislocated a finger earlier in the game, to end it. "They were all tight games". Blomgren got picked off first base, but MI caught a break as the Bruins botched the rundown and allowed him to dive safely into second.

Henry (10-5) - who was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of last week's Major League Baseball draft - was battling a virus for most of the week but wasn't going to miss the deciding game.

Benjamin Keizer got six huge outs for MI to close the game, striking out a pair of hitters and allowing just one base hit and one hit batter.

"We knew how good this team was".

The very next batter, Ako Thomas, singled up the middle to drive in what would end up being the winning run.

"Nobody expected us to be here, nobody expected us to win, and I think that just speaks to the belief in ourselves and how we have to grit ourselves to wins", said Henry, a Portage Northern graduate.

The Wolverines struck first in the second. Christian Bullock added two hits and scored two runs for MI.

Jake Pries quickly tied the game with a home run in the bottom half, and UCLA took its first lead in the third when Jordan Brewer tripped while tracking a Garrett Mitchell line drive. The junior left fielder tripled to left center to lead off the ninth and added an insurance run when he scored on Joe Donovan's sacrifice fly. Nick Nastrini started for the Bruins and yielded two runs on one hit. There's only been one Big Ten team to make the College World Series in the 35 years in between, in in 2013. It is a culture, a set of standards that they uphold every day.

"It's definitely special for the conference". "It's been a long time coming". "We have great leaders within the group".
