A man has been killed in a stabbing on O'Connell Street in Dublin in the early hours of this morning.

It happened on O'Connell Street at 20 to 2 this morning.

The 39-year-old has left many friends and family numbed with grief.

Jonathan Corrie died from exposure in December 2014 close to Dail Eireann.

The man was taken to the Mater Hospital but was later pronounced dead.

He was taken to a police station for questioning, but this was suspended while he was taken to hospital for treatment.

Irish broadcaster RTE reports that the man was stabbed several times following an altercation with another man who he had previously been talking to.

The scene has been entirely sealed off, and traffic diversions are in place.

The Green Line Luas isn't operating between the St Stephens Green and Dominic stops but tickets are valid on Dublin Bus.
