The two clubs had previously reached an agreement "in principle" for the Welsh global, for a fee believed to be in the region of £18m.

James made 38 appearances for Swansea last season, scoring five goals and assisting another 10.

Man Utd have confirmed the signing of Daniel James from Swansea.

The Welshman turned heads for his terrifying speed, reaching 36 km/hr - just one km/hr shy of Arjen Robben's world record (37 km/hr).

The Old Trafford club announced they had agreed a deal to sign James on Friday, with the initial fee believed to be around £15 million, potentially rising to £22m.

The 21-year-old Wales worldwide, whose move is subject to global clearance, is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's first signing as United manager, with Swansea reportedly set to receive £15million up front and potentially another £3m in add-ons.

James was in an equally positive mood when addressing reporters, admitting that he can not wait to embark on a new challenge.

Speaking after the move was confirmed, Man United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjær claimed he's looking forward to working with James, explaining "he has all the attributes" needed to play for the Red Devils.

With the rebuilding now underway at Old Trafford as Ole tries to overhaul his squad, the Norwegian has been searching for young, quick and hungry players and it seems like the Swan's Daniel James is very close to a move to Salford in what some may see as a remarkable rise for the Welsh global.

"This is an incredibly proud moment for me and my family. I am looking forward to working with Ole, meeting the team and getting started". "This is the ideal environment for Daniel to continue his development".

"I'd probably think another three or four additions to the squad to add some more quality and competition", Thornley said. Thank you to everyone who has shown faith in me.

"I am confident he can do that".
