BBC's Victoria Derbyshire latest victim over Jeremy Hunt's name

With a name like Jeremy Hunt, it is only ever going to be a matter of time until somebody pronounces your name wrong.

She became the latest of several BBC presenters to make the four-letter slip regarding the would-be PM, during a debate about the race to be Tory leader on her TV show yesterday.

Derbyshire was referring to the ever-growing number of broadcasters who have made the same slip of the tongue while live on air.

You say the man you are backing, Jeremy c***...

Victoria Derbyshire pronounced the surname of Jeremy Hunt as "C***' today".

"I've never said that before in my life, it is usually men who say that, so I really want to apologise".

The BBC's subtitle service managed to avoid further embarrassment by substituting the word with "EXPLETIVE".

"You say he is the right man to negotiate some kind of withdrawal deal and get it through parliament, as well as negotiating with the European Union". That's what was in my head - appreciate it didn't come out like that.

Today programme presenter Justin Webb made a similar mistake in 2018, and former BBC China Carrie Gracie also referred to Hunt as "C**t" on television a year ago.

In 2010 BBC Radio 4 host James Naughtie called the then culture secretary "Jeremy C**t" live on the Today programme.

Andrew Marr said it while talking about Mr Naughtie's own mistake just an hour or so earlier, while Nicky Campbell made the same mistake only last week.
