A 102-year-old woman is suspected of having murdered her 92-year-old neighbour in a French retirement home.

Authorities believe the suspect may have been going through a dementia-related crisis at the time of the alleged attacks and is now being monitored at the psychiatric hospital.

She told one of her carers at the home in Chézy-sur-Marne that she had "killed someone" before the body was discovered, reports the BBC.

A staffer found the victim unconscious in bed on Saturday, with her face severely bruised.

Meanwhile, her 102-year-old neighbor admitted she had killed someone and was said to be in "a great state of agitation".

An autopsy revealed the 92-year-old had died from strangulation and significant blows to the head.

She will undergo a psychological examination to determine if she is eligible for penal sanction or is criminally irresponsible, he added.
