As its name suggests, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 builds upon the business-focused direction Google went in with the device in 2017. Google says the device can be used to access checklists, view instructions or send inspection photos or videos, and that enterprise customers have reported faster production times, improved quality, and reduced costs after using Glass.

This version of Glass uses Android Oreo for software and supports Android Enterprise Mobile Device Management, meaning that a whole fleet of devices can be easily deployed and standardized with the apps and APIs needed for particular tasks.

Google is pricing this version of Glass at $999, though actual quotes will be for packages that include specifically-tailored software - for comparison, Microsoft's heavy-duty AR headset, HoloLens, is priced at $3,500. And since it's based on Android, companies will also be able to integrate their services much quicker than before. The design of the device is nearly identical, but Google has swapped out the chip on the inside and the new Glass 2 is now build on Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR1 platform. Google said the new tech powering Glass would enable more efficient power use, better performance and better machine learning capabilities.

These improvements come bundled with a new USB-C port, enhanced battery life, and new safety frames courtesy of a partnership with Smith Optics. Glass EE 2 brings a new CPU and a host of other enhancements along with it.
