Fans at the film's premiere party during the 2019 Cannes Film Festival were given a special treat when the two stars joined forces for a performance on Thursday night (May 16) on the beach in Cannes, France.

But donning heart-shaped, red-tinted glasses he gave the movie his hearty blessing on Thursday. "Even if the movie doesn't make one penny at the box office, which will kill Jim Gianopulos, it is the movie I wanted to make".

Elton John and Taron Egerton have debuted an all new duet that will feature in the singer's biopic Rocketman. Apparently Egerton burst into tears as well.

John characteristically was in more flamboyant attire than his fellow attendees, with the musician dressed in a tuxedo emblazoned with sequins spelling out the film's title (and name of John's 1972 hit). The Guardian acknowledged that Rocketman "had the burden of following or living up to Elton John's sensational songs, the masterpieces which each seem like mini-movies in themselves".

Rocketman isn't so dissimilar from Bohemian Rhapsody.

Rocketman stars Taron Egerton (Kingsman: Secret Service) as the famed singer/songwriter, along with Jamie Bell (TURN: Washington's Spies), Richard Madden (Game of Thrones), and Bryce Dallas Howard (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom).

Perhaps more controversially, the film takes an R-rated approach to John's life, with frank depictions of gay sex and drug use. It grossed US$903 million worldwide.

The movie, starring Taron Egerton, tracks the singer's first steps in the music business, from his tentative tryouts on the piano as a child to his explosion onto the USA scene and its drug and alcohol-fueled party world.
