JEMAINE CLEMENT Joins AVATAR Sequels

Clement will reportedly play a marine biologist by the name of Dr. Ian Garvin. James Cameron has been planning out what will eventually be a five-movie saga for the better part of the last decade and production is well underway on the next installments, which will be released by Disney in the coming years, thanks to the merger with Fox.

"I've loved Jemaine's work for years and I'm really pumped that he's joining our cast as Ian Garvin, one of my favorite characters", said Cameron.

Avatar 2 is scheduled to hit theaters December 17, 2021, with three further sequels following every two years.

Subsequently, the other sequels have moved to 2023, 2025 and 2027.

The 2009 fantasy epic "Avatar" remains the all-time box office champion, with $2.8 billion worldwide.

Cameron and Jon Landau are producing through their Lightstorm Entertainment company.

Clement joins an impressive array of actors joining the Avatar franchise, including Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Vin Diesel and Oona Chaplin are also joining the sequels alongside a slate of young actors. Returning cast members include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Joel David Moore, Dileep Rao, Stephen Lang, Matt Gerald and Sigourney Weaver. The script was written by Cameron with Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa, Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno.

Mostly known for comedy, Clement is now serving as executive producer on the FX series What We Do in the Shadows, based on the 2014 film he made with Thor: Ragnarok's Taika Waititi. He also starred opposite Dan Stevens in FX's drama series "Legion".
