"On some level, I knew she was training me for this". "My family was always first, but there are countless times when I chose work over everything else", he said. "I was scared, and I was crying out to God-and to her-and nearly immediately Kim's voice kicked in, and I could hear her saying, 'Make sure you take care of my babies'". "I'm just a lot more present, and, most important, now my kids come before anything else in my life", Diddy expressed during the interview.

The heartfelt conversation hits newsstands Friday.

Diddy - who has Christian, 21, Jessie, 12, and D'Lila Star, 12, with the late model - previously praised his ex-girlfriend for doing a "great job" in raising their children and noted that their twin daughters D'Lila Star and Jessie James are just like her.

The father of six appeared on the cover of Essence magazine's May issue with his brood, where he talked up about how he's changed since losing his soulmate almost six months ago.

Along with being more present in his kids' lives, the Revolt owner is learning so much about pain and grief from his children. "They said that, in a weird way, their mother had taught them how to deal with death", Sean continued. "One night I was checking on her, and she was like, 'Puffy, take care of my babies, '" Sean shared. About six years ago, Kim's mother [Sarah Porter] was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and we moved her to L.A. She passed away about a year and a half later, so the girls saw their mother deal with losing her mother. Diddy speaks about the sudden passing of #KimPorter, having to adjust to his motherly instincts, & much more. "She actually said that to me before she died".

"Three days before she passed, she wasn't feeling well". Porter thought she had the flu and sent the kids to stay with him while she was sick.

He said he went into "mommy mode" after Porter's death, trying desperately to make sure the kids would not hear about it online or on the news.

Porter continues to guide the family even though she is gone. Diddy believes she is still teaching him and his children valuable life lessons.
