Instagram might soon hide the Like count from your posts

It's a sad state of affairs that so many social media users tend to base self-worth on how many "likes" their post garners, but Instagram - the platform of choice for today's cultural influencers - may be trying to change that.

Instagram says they have no plans to launch the feature just yet. According to TechCrunch, Instagram is now considering the option to get rid of users' ability to see the number of likes another user's post has.

Instagram seems to be testing a new design that hides how many likes a photo has, shared Jane Manchun Wong, a computer science major at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Over the last few years, Instagram has made an enormous impact on social media.

Instagram might be changing up one of the most fundamental parts of its service: likes.

In a statement to The Verge, an Instagram spokesperson said, "We're not testing this at the moment, but exploring ways to reduce pressure on Instagram is something we're always thinking about". It has also led to people posting inauthentic posts to grab more attention and Likes.

Like counts have induced a sense of competition and could sometimes be entirely dispiriting.

The screenshot shows posts that no longer display Like count, but viewers can still see the profile pictures and usernames of others who have liked the post. But for her, audience interaction is a big selling point. Now, Instagram could be adding a new feature where the app will hide the amount of likes users receive on their photos.
