Massive Fire At Historic Notre Dame Cathedral In Paris

Numerous photos and videos uploaded by social media users show clouds of smoke coming out of the building. - Using a 120 meter crane at the foot of the cathedral, the sixteen statues, the 12 apostles and the 4 evangelists, which sit around the spire of the cathedral are being removed to be sent to Perigueux, in southwest France for restoration.

French President Emmanuel Macron cancelled a planned address to the nation due to the "terrible fire".

Notre Dame Cathedral is located on the Ile de la Cite, the very heart of the city. Perhaps flying water tankers could be used to put it out.

A cathedral spokesperson has claimed that the fire was first reported at 5:50 p.m. local time and the building was evacuated shortly thereafter.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear, but officials say that it could be linked to renovation work. It attracts millions of tourists each year.
