There were no surprises as the MSK Prasad-headed selection committee maintained continuity in their choices with the only topic of discussion being the second wicketkeeper.

Khushdil's comments also come after Pakistan head coach Mickey Arthur admitted that the national team are lacking a quality finisher going into the World Cup.

Rahul' selection could also mean bad news for Karthik and Pant.

Naturally, Prasad had to field the maximum questions on Pant's omission and the explanation was Tamil Nadu stumper's experience.

'It was definitely a case where we debated in length.

Amidst the speculations for the No. 4 spot, Ambati Rayudu - who is not being in good form - is missing out of the team.

Vijay Shankar, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the all-rounders in the team. The selector clarified that they tried quite a few options from the Champions Trophy that was played in 2017. "But let me tell you that in the last month or so, there have been a couple of players who have really cropped up like Vijay Shankar", he said.

The selection committee has opted to go with KL Rahul and Dinesh Karthik as the batsmen alongside Kohli, Dhawan, Rohit, Kedar and MS Dhoni.

'We did give a few more chances to Ambati Rayudu but Vijay Shankar gives three dimensions. Will Ravindra Jadeja go to England in place of the fourth seamer? Hardik Pandya remains India's first choice all-rounder while wrist-spinners Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are expected to share the slow bowling duties.

"And in the second part of the tournament, when the wickets will be more dry, we felt Jadeja will be handy".

The pace trio of Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have also been included in the squad.

Meanwhile, Prasad also revealed that left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed's name was also discussed during the selection meeting.

Four extra fast bowlers will travel with the team.
