Previously portrayed as little more than a man filled with vengeance and anger, the fresh start for the series introduced us to a more contemplative Kratos, aware of the downsides of his fury and trying not to pass on those same lessons to his young son Atreus.

Lastly, to clear up any confusion, a tweet from God of War writer Cory Barlog last night was interpreted by some online as being a tease for DLC coming to the game.

Today Sony released a video featuring the folks who made the game as they thank the fans, also showcasing some of the awesome fan art and work that many put into expressing their love for the new adventure of Kratos and the first trials for Atreus.

There are two thank you gifts for PS4 owners to look forward to.

"In honour of you, our fans, we're starting a week-long celebration of the one-year anniversary of this God of War", reads a Sony Santa Monica post.

"Yet, change is hard".

If you haven't played Dad Simulator - uh, God of War - yet, you can pick it up on the PlayStation store for just $39.99. Change to a longstanding franchise comes with immeasurable doubt, a studio defining risk and a huge leap of faith.

In addition to creating and developing the God of War series, the Sony studio has collaborated with other developers to deliver various PS2, PS3, PS4 and Vita games.

To celebrate the game's first anniversary and as a big thank you present to all the fans, you can get a free PlayStation 4 dynamic theme right now on the PlayStation Store, regardless of whether you actually have the game or not.
