"Can a patriot speak like this?"

He asserted that people should remember that in Tamil Nadu and in many other States, the Congress had formed alliances, not to take the nation forward, but with a single point agenda to "defeat Modi". Modi said he can understand the kind of pressure on Amarinder Singh.

"I have known Capt Amaridner Singh for a long time".

At the rally, the Prime Minister had promised to "stand like a wall" against "attempts of the National Conference and the PDP to continue family rule" in the state.

Stepping up the campaign for the ruling Congress-JDS alliance on a day when the prime minister was also on a blitzkrieg in Karnataka, Gandhi said he wanted to know "why all the thieves have surnames of Modi."The Congress president said he would not like to be the Chowkidar (watchman), but the voice of the people.
