PlayStation 4: So Now You Can Finally Change Your Name In PSN

While Sony says you can change your ID either on the console or via a web browser, it might not stick with every game you want to play.

Sony said today that ID changes are supported in a "large majority of the most-played PS4 games", but more specifically, only games that launched on or after April 1, 2018 are likely to show changed IDs because those titles were developed with tools that support ID changes.

Sony explains that most of the most popular PS4 games support this name change. Of course, it might be a good idea to back up game saves to PSN's cloud storage, too. Choosing a new one previously meant losing all that stuff, going all the way back to the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita. Next up is to click on Account Information ...source Sony 4.

Enter an Online ID of your choice or choose from one of the suggestions. Subsequent changes cost $10 apiece, intentionally priced to keep users from constantly switching their names. This is possible via the PS4 itself or in the web browser. If the address entered is correct, a second screen will appear immediately in which to enter your password and, if you have enabled 2-step verification, you will have to enter the code received via SMS in a third screen. With the latter two, users may find that after changing their IDs, their new handles might not be visible in some portions of games or that user accounts could be unlinked from game accounts. You can also choose to display your old ID alongside your new one for 30 days after you change, letting your friends know who you are when they see a new name on their friends lists. At least, it is free the first time you do it. What kind of issues? With yesterday's arrival of ID changes comes a softening of the punishment directed at violators. Ant's a lost cause, but what about you? -Parts of your game and applications may not function properly both online and offline. Games with critical issues might result in lost progress, or they could even lose in-game currency.
