New Zealand mixed martial artist Israel Adesanya has earned a title shot against reigning UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker after a unanimous points victory over American Kelvin Gastelum in Atlanta today.

It looked like Adesanya might make it a quick night as he peppered Gastelum with his pinpoint accuracy early in the fight.

Not to be outdone, Max Holloway and Dustin Poirier amped things up another notch in the night's main event, again giving the fans five rounds of battle before a victor was declared.

Poirier outpointed featherweight champion Holloway in a brutal back-and-forth in Atlanta, Georgia, running out a 49-46 victor on all three scorecards and claiming the interim lightweight title. Holloway didn't fold in the heavier weight class, as he fought through the damage and unloaded with his own punches, putting Poirier in difficultly.

Khabib Nurmagomedov heaped praise on UFC rivals Dustin Poirier and Max Holloway after the pair put on a slugfest at UFC 236, which saw Poirier emerge the victor on the scorecards to set up a meeting with the undefeated Russian.

The UFC community and fans around the world were in awe of the battle, which took everything out of the two fighters.
