A fire broke out during the first night of Coachella, with social media footage appearing to show a row of showers in the campground ablaze. The event occurred shortly after rapper Childish Gambino closed day one of the festival.

The explosion happened in a mobile shower unit in the center of the Coachella campgrounds. Firefighters on the scene were able to put out the fire.

Within half an hour, the blaze was "contained", the department said. They found a shower unit engulfed in flames; one trailer was damaged and another was destroyed.

Witnesses report hearing explosions before the fire broke out, with concert-goers fleeing the area in their towels as security cleared the area.

The festival continues on Saturday with top-billed sets from Tame Impala, Billie Eilish and many others.

The livestream began at 4 p.m. PT on April 12 and will run through both weekends of Coachella on three separate channels.
