KO_OP, ustwo games announce Apple Arcade exclusives

More than $US1 billion has reportedly been spent on original TV shows and movies, including documentaries from Oprah Winfrey, as well as her book club; a show about TV morning talk shows starring Jennifer Aniston, Reese Witherspoon and Steve Carell; and a sci-fi show called Amazing Stories from Steven Spielberg.

We also got quick images of M. Night Shyamalan's upcoming thriller (the plotline is still being kept secret so we're not sure if its genre specifically), a new musical animated series from the folks behind Bob's Burgers, as well as Joel Kinnaman (Altered Carbon) in For All Mankind, the alternate-history series from Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander) all about what would've happened if the space race between the USA and Russian Federation had never ended.

But the Silicon Valley company has a history of making quick progress when coming from behind: It launched its Apple Music streaming service years after rival Spotify Technology SA but has garnered 50 million listeners, almost half of Spotify's 96 million premium subscribers.

First off, don't mistake apples for oranges.

"Great stories can change the world. Apple TV+ will be home to some of the highest quality original storytelling that TV and movie lovers have seen yet". Apple TV+ looks to compete directly with popular video streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. But on Monday, Apple unveiled a host of new financial and entertainment services that could rake in billions of dollars from Apple loyalists, long after they've finished paying for their phones.

Winfrey said Apple has reimagined how people communicate. The app will also be available for Mac, select smart TVs, Roku, and Fire TV devices. But some suggested Apple's path may be harder than anticipated.

The LA Times and the Wall Street Journal will also be part of the platform, the firm said.

The fruit-logo company also says, "Apple is not just handpicking the games in Apple Arcade, but also contributing to the development costs and working closely with creators to bring the games to life".

"We designed a new TV experience where you can pay for only the channels you want, all in one app, with the password you already have", Apple's Peter Stern said at the event. Updates to Apple services including the App Store, Apple Pay and iNews were also announced.

Apple also emphasized its commitment to privacy by stating Apple would not know which games users are playing - a message it reiterated several times on Monday during its announcements.

The move comes as Apple shifts to emphasize digital content and other services to offset a pullback in the once-sizzling smartphone market, and with many news organizations struggling to monetize their online services.

Despite all the reasons Apple Arcade won't be a successful, it certainly has a better shot than News+ or TV+. Apple says advertisers won't track readers inside the app. And Apple in January said its Apple News service had 85 million active users after being released less than four years ago. A separate physical titanium card will be available too.

Subscribers can share unlimited access to Apple News+ content with their family without paying an extra fee.
