Nintendo might launch two new Switch models this summer

But, rather than being a straight-up Nintendo Switch 2, a Wall Street Journal report suggests that Nintendo is working on two individual variants that, rather than making the current Nintendo Switch obsolete, would put it in the middle of a range growing to suit all budgets.

The report also pointed out that one of the models will be more affordable than the other version.

The second model will be a cheaper unit with an emphasis on handheld play and portability.

It appears the persistent rumors that Nintendo would give its Switch console a major refresh this year are going to come true after all.

Nintendo didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

"My latest on new Nintendo Switch coming as early as this summer", the tech reporter wrote on Twitter.

The cheaper version, on the other hand, is more of a successor to the 3DS.

The first, they say, "will have enhanced features targeted at avid videogamers, although it won't be as powerful as Sony Corp.'s PlayStation 4 Pro or Microsoft Corp.'s Xbox One X".

As always this is a rumor, but given the Wall Street Journal's sources have been correct in the past, it might be worth preparing for some big bombshells this E3, as according to the article these new systems could launch as early as this summer. The report doesn't include any mention of price points for either console. The company reportedly bid to make the displays for the original Switch consoles but lost out.
