In the latest CNN poll of voters who say they will likely vote in the Democratic primary, Biden leads with 28 percent, compared to Sanders at 20 percent.

Former Vice President Joe Biden has told some supporters that he's making plans to jump into the race, joining a diverse field of candidates vying to challenge President Donald Trump, a person familiar with the conversations said. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) by eight percentage points with 35 percent support among Democratic primary voters.

Mark Putnam, a Democratic advertising and video maker who worked for Obama and several of last year's successful congressional candidates, was seen last weekend surveying scenes outside Biden's childhood home in Scranton, Pennsylvania, according to the political news website Politico.

Former Rep. Beto O'Rourke (D-TX) at eight percent.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) at four percent. After almost accidentally announcing his plans in a weekend speech, several people familiar with his plans tell CBS News that Biden has started phoning potential donors this week who can help him raise millions of dollars, fast.

The former vice president and the Vermont democratic socialist also lead in favorability among Democrat primary voters.

Thirty-four percent of Democrats strongly approve of Sanders, 41 percent somewhat approve of the Vermont senator, and 15 percent strongly disapprove of Sanders.

Early polling shows Biden is at the top of an already crowded field of 14 candidates running for the 2020 Democratic nomination.

The former vice president is widely expected to announce a 2020 bid in the coming weeks, the report said.

"Our politics have become so mean, so petty, so vicious, that we can't govern ourselves, in many cases even talk to one another", Biden said.

A third source with direct knowledge of Biden's plans offered a caveat, saying the former vice president was very close to running, but "it's not 100 percent".

Incumbent President Donald Trump, a Republican, has announced his intention to run for re-election. "Get used to it, another low I.Q. individual!"
