"I'll just be real with you", Maryland coach Mark Turgeon said.

He and the others searched for answers after Maryland's trip to the Big Ten tournament ended early for the third straight season, this time with a second-round loss to 13th-seeded Nebraska, 69-61.

It's a great time to be a Nebraska Basketball fan right about now.

James Palmer Jr. has 58 points in two games after scoring 24 against the Terrapins.

Rutgers' Eugene Omoruyi had 16 points and five assists, while Myles Johnson added 11 points and 11 rebounds off the bench.

The Terps shot 29 percent in the first half.

Over on the Wisconsin side, they're 22-9 this season. "You never know when it's your last game". So to be in that situation and be able to see these guys come back ...

But the Cornhuskers (18-15) built a double-digit lead late in the first half and carried it through much of the second. As a team, Maryland committed seven turnovers and shot just 29.2 percent from the field, scoring just 20 points in the first 20 minutes. Nebraska basketball led by 12 at the half 32-20.

While Nebraska's defense was excellent all half, Palmer carried the load offensively by scoring 14 of his 24 points on a ideal 4-of-4 shooting.

In the win over the Buckeyes, Wisconsin's lead scorer was Khalil Iverson with 22 points and 14 rebounds.

"The whole game, we just couldn't get in the groove, " Pikiell said. Maryland basketball cut the lead to five, 35-30. They had just seven scholarship players available and eight total because of injuries.

"We weren't very good today". Then he went heels over head. That led to two Watson free throws and an And-1 by Roby that put NU up 51-37. Thursday was another example of that as they defeated the fifth overall seed in Maryland who had given them fits in the regular season. Jalen Smith made a pair free throws, and a Daryll Morsell dunk followed that. "I want to go out there and play each and every minute". "It's an important mentality, and they've got it".

Roby scored 11 of his 15 points in the second half, while senior Tanner Borchardt hauled in a game-high nine rebounds, five of which coming on the offensive glass to help NU post an 11-3 edge in second-chance points. But Miles said the team has played with cohesion both days to execute the game plan.

"We're just out there having fun", Roby said. So we're playing loose and playing free, but we're focused. But unlike the first two losses in the regular season, the Huskers were the ones who set the tone with their effort and energy from the opening tip. "That's the only thing that's going through my head right now". The next time Maryland loses, the season will be over. Maryland hasn't won a postseason game since 2016, and that's what was on Anthony Cowan Jr.'s mind after the defeat. That stat line wasn't lost on the Huskers after the game.

Nebraska looked like a team enjoying every moment on the court, thriving as an underdog and playing with objective in an attempt to save Miles' job. "I don't know if he wasn't expecting it or he wasn't ready, but we were ready from the tip".

The Huskers demonstrated again Thursday that they don't need depth to win. Miles was asked after the game if he'd like his A.D.to be in attendance for Thursday's quarterfinal. The Badgers have played some relatively close games lately, so I think the Huskers can get in there and cover. "He can catch us on TV; I'm fine with that".

"It's the only thing I've been thinking about", said Cowan, the junior guard who is the only upperclassman in Maryland's eight-man rotation.
