Mississippi State showed no mercy to Texas A&M in the second round of the SEC Men's Basketball Tournament, defeating the Aggies 80-54.

Flagg has found his way over the second-half of the season and is peaking when the depleted Aggies need a consistent playmaker the most.

Billy Kennedy's tenure at A&M will live for at least another day, and if the Aggies can play collectively, they could make a run at giving him a weekend to remember in the Music City if this is his curtain call in College Station. Jay Jay Chandler scored 13 points and Josh Nebo added 11 for Texas A&M, which shot 53.8 percent from the field.

A Mississippi State win on Thursday would punch the Bulldogs' ticket to Friday's quarterfinals and a matchup with No. 8 Tennessee.

Multiple media outlets reported Tuesday that Kennedy, 55, won't return next season. That just kind of overflowed to us. But, from the opening tip, you knew who the Vols were going to play. Last night we played really well, played with a lot of energy. The 2008-09 season also marked MSU's last NCAA Tournament trip.

It was almost Friday morning before the Tennessee basketball team learned who their first game opponent was going to be. They turned in the first losing record in 67 seasons at Memorial Gym, and being a couple miles away at Bridgestone Arena didn't help. Tennessee won that game 71-54 in Knoxville and also knocked Mississippi State out of the tournament past year. Drew said he'll meet with new athletic director Malcolm Turner after the season.

"We knew we couldn't let up on defense", Carter said.

"It's going to be a long off-season", Wetzell said. Lee scored four straight to tie it up for Vanderbilt.

Quinndary Weatherspoon filled the box score with 12 points, a season's best nine assists and three steals. It never went below 10 after halftime.

SOLID SAVION: Savion Flagg has connected on 34.1 percent of the 129 3-pointers he's attempted and has made 9 of 17 over the last three games.

According to oddsmakers at BetNow.eu, Texas A&M is the slight favorite in this game, as the Aggies are getting odds of -3.5 points against Vanderbilt. Ryan finished 1 of 8 beyond the arc, and Vandy was just 3 of 23.

Kennedy, 55, was hired by Texas A&M in 2011 and led the Aggies to two Sweet 16 appearances and an SEC championship in 2016.

In addition, there's another budding star named sophomore Barnaby Smith, who was selected as the SEC Player of the Week back in February.

Vanderbilt: A decision on whether Drew gets a fourth season.

Vegas now has Mississippi State taking it by seven points but as coach Howland said anything can happen in the postseason, especially with A&M coming off a big win over Vanderbilt.
