Giants to sign LB Markus Golden

Now, however, Terez Paylor has word that the Chiefs are also interested in checking out pass rushers, or at least one in Markus Golden. He spent his first four National Football League seasons with the Cardinals, the first three playing for James Bettcher, his defensive coordinator in Arizona. Arians is now the head coach in Tampa while former Cardinals defensive line coach Brentson Buckner now has the same job with the Raiders.

Golden had 12.5 sacks with the Cardinals in 2016, leading the team in that department.

Golden was teammates with recent addition Tyrann Mathieu during their time in Arizona.

Why only a one-year commitment?

It's unknown whether Golden would accept a one-year deal to bet on himself, but doing so could provide an ideal scenario for Kansas City to buy low on a motivated player. But he tore his ACL in 2017 and recorded just 2.5 sacks in 2018 when Arizona converted to a 4-3 defense.

A few hours after signing adding Golden Tate to a wide receiver corps that includes Brittan Golden, the Giants signed defensive end/outside linebacker Markus Golden, as first reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

The Giants will give Golden the opportunity to prove he is healthy and can be productive. They were desperate to add to a defense that lost its best pass rusher, Olivier Vernon, in a trade with the Browns.

Golden is a familiar name around the region already as a St. Louis native and product of the University of Missouri, where he earned second-team All-SEC honors and a Citrus Bowl MVP trophy his final year.

Bettcher is bringing his types of players to the Giants. "I would love to have "MG" here". A good guy. Most importantly, a good family guy.

As it turned out, the Giants made the call before Bethea got the chance to do so.
