Chargers CB Jason Verrett to sign with 49ers

The San Francisco 49ers are signing former Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Jason Verrett to a one-year deal worth $3.6 million, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The former first round selection in the 2014 draft, Verrett played in just 25 of a possible 80 games in five seasons. He missed all of 2018 after tearing an Achilles in training camp.

Verrett is an uber-talented cover man, but the former first-round pick has been blasted by the injury bug during his five-year career. He said he couldn't confirm the signing yet. From a torn rotator cuff to a torn ACL to a torn Achilles tendon, Verrett has suffered numerous injuries since entering the National Football League, hence the reason that a player with the skills to make the Pro Bowl in his only healthy season signs for such a small amount. They only had two interceptions and neither of them were by corners. Ahkello Witherspoon and Tarvarius Moore will also compete for a starting job across from Richard Sherman.
