Rumour: Scalebound lives on as a Nintendo Switch exclusive

Originally, PlatinumGames' open world action title was an Xbox One exclusive, but it was cancelled by Microsoft in 2017.

Game Informer's Imran Khan has been quite vocal about some behind-the-scenes details of Nintendo in recent weeks, making claims about the rebooting of Metroid Prime 4, the status of Metroid Prime Trilogy for Switch, and the fate of Mother 3. While there's no guarantee that they were talking about Scalebound, we don't know if it's not.

Scalebound centers around a young man named Drew, who finds himself pulled into the mystical world of Draconis, where he bonds with a dragon named Thuban as he attempts to both save Draconis and find a way home.

Nintendo-Insider originally reported this information, but it lines up with whispers VG247 has heard.

We'll just have to wait and see what Nintendo ends up revealing, if Khan is even partially correct and the company is, in fact, having Scalebound resurrected. New rumours suggest Nintendo has since picked it up and is working with Platinum to bring it back. Scalebound was helmed by industry legend Hideki Kamiya and was shown off at events like Gamescom 2015. But the common theme here is that I wanted to realise this game in the way that these two large-scale creatures were going at each other, and how can we make this work where you are not just the observer of what's taking place but helping as well'. So we made the prototype, but unfortunately it didn't really make it to the point where we had a publishing partner that we could proceed with further and really make the game.
