Now he's getting his own biopic; the trailer for it is above.

And. apparently J.R.R. Tolkien's real life was basically The Lord of the Rings? Obviously the film, directed by Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland) is created to make you see the parallels between the author's exploits in love and war and the fictions he later imagined. The trailer is not exactly subtle about this stuff.

Directed by Finnish filmmaker Dome Karukoski (Tom of Finland), Tolkien co-stars Tom Glynn-Carney (Dunkirk), Anthony Boyle (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child), Patrick Gibson (The Darkest Minds), Colm Meaney (The Devil's Hand), Genevieve O'Reilly (The Snowman), Craig Roberts (Red Oaks), Derek Jacobi (Tomb Raider), and Pam Ferris (Holmes & Watson). The story will explore Tolkien's relationships while at school, spending time in his formative years as an author and artist before the horrors of World War I change him and his friends forever.

Tolkien's immersive epics and richly realized world creation made his novels an worldwide sensation and the author's detailed guide to his world (with maps, drawings, lore and language references to enhance the depth of the fantasy) inspired modern myth-makers like George Lucas, James Cameron, George R.R. Martin, and, of course, Peter Jackson, who guided Gandalf, Bilbo, Smaugh, and all the rest of Tolkien's creations to the screen in historic fashion. Tolkien hits theaters on May 10.
