Heavy Snow Expected in Central Iowa Later Monday

A Winter Weather Advisory is issued until noon Sunday for a variety of winter weather conditions across Mid-Missouri, such as snow, blowing snow, sleet or freezing drizzle and rain. Snow will mix with - or change to ice pellets later Tuesday morning, and to freezing rain Tuesday afternoon.

A low pressure system brewing over the southern plains States may intensify into a winter storm as it tracks over southern Ontario Tuesday, the statement said. Snow is expected to begin in Duluth late Monday night.

Cities along the Washington-Oregon border near Portland are within the zones that may get more than three feet of snow in total.

IMPACTS: Travel will again be hard and even hazardous starting overnight tonight and likely through Tuesday.

Precipitation should ease up starting in the early hours of Wednesday morning, although it could linger into the Wednesday commute, especially north and west of Boston.

We're expecting at least an inch of snow overnight before the precipitation freezes up.

The snow will taper off to flurries Wednesday, Feb. 13.

Parts of the US Pacific Northwest are being inundated with unusually high levels of snow.

How much is possible in an extreme case?

"And then temperatures will rise above the freezing mark, changing that freezing rain over to rain in the afternoon".

And what if this storm's a dud?

- Another round of snow, sleet and freezing rain is on the way.

Light snow started to make its way into the interior lowlands in the late afternoon Sunday, the National Weather Service said.
