Taking over for Carlyle will be Ducks' general manager Bob Murray, who will assume the role in an interim basis for the remainder of the season.

While the team says they'll look for their new head coach in the summer, it appears Dallas Eakins - who now serves as head coach of the team's AHL affiliate in San Diego - is the front-runner for the big-league role, according to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston.

"We thank Randy for everything he has done for the organization", Murray said. "We have a tradition of success in Anaheim and we need to get back to that".

The Ducks (21-26-9) have lost seven consecutive games (0-7-0) while being outscored 37-8 and are 2-15-4 in their past 21 games, including a team record 12-game losing streak (0-8-4) from December 18-Jan. 15.

Anaheim Ducks head coach Randy Carlyle gestures to Adam Henrique (14) on the bench in the third period of an NHL hockey game against the Boston Bruins, Thursday, Dec. 20, 2018, in Boston. He went 384-256-96 in 736 games with Anaheim. Carlyle returned to the Ducks in 2016 after almost three seasons as head coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He is the only person in league history to reach 1,000 games as a player and serve as head coach for 900-plus contests. He is the longest-tenured and winningest GM in Ducks history with 445 victories in 825 games.

He is signed through 2022 after agreeing to a two-year contract extension on December 8. But Anaheim was swept out of the first round last season.

Murray said the Ducks were not considering a coaching change after they lost their 11th consecutive game, 4-3 in overtime at the Winnipeg Jets on January 13.

Amid a 12-game losing streak last month, Murray issued a statement saying he wasn't considering a coaching change and instead was focusing on the roster.
