An Indiana jailbird's escape bid went horribly wrong when he tumbled through a ceiling - and fell straight into the booking area, new video shows.

He got stuck above the fingerprint room before he fell through the ceiling and got tangled in wires.

He had run into a medical room and locked himself inside after returning from a recreational area, Sheriff Rick Meyer said.

Jail officers tried to get Ayers out of the ceiling, but he refused, and crawled through the ceiling, trying to escape.

Ayers was treated by local emergency medical services after the incident and was charged with attempted escape and criminal mischief, according to the Sheriff.

As Ayers hung there, a surveillance camera captured deputies using stun guns on him.

The inmate went to the hospital with minor injuries, but he's now back in jail. Ayers, who was originally jailed on a failure to appear warrant for battery, may face additional charges, the sheriff's department said in the press release.
