To be clear, none of this means that we should change our approach to dealing with the Trump administration's myriad attacks on people living with HIV outside of this plan. But after the dust had settled, pundits started forcing the president's hand.

In recent years a number of health organizations, including the United Nations, have called for co-ordinated steps to end the HIV epidemic by 2030. Also, counsellors ensure tracking of HIV positive patients through telephone and home visits in the case of those who drop out between diagnosis and treatment to maintain their adherence to treatment, the sources said.

Today's HIV treatments work so well they not only can give people with the AIDS virus a near-normal life expectancy, they offer a double whammy - making those patients less likely to infect other people. The government has 'been trying to address HIV, but never in such a focused way, ' he said. Sure, HHS Secretary Alex Azar and CDC Director Robert Redfield, M.D., aren't the selections that many in the HIV community would have made for those crucial presidential appointments, but they both have extensive backgrounds in HIV research, prevention, and treatment and see addressing the HIV epidemic as a significant priority. "Health centers are also a key point of entry for people undiagnosed with HIV", said Sigounas, who explained that almost 2 million people receive HIV tests at the health centers annually.

"My budget will ask Democrats and Republicans to make the needed commitment to eliminate the HIV epidemic in the United States within 10 years", the president said. This is not an accident, but the result of the hard work of HIV advocates who saw an opportunity to influence the designs of those in power in a way that would benefit people living with HIV.

On Tuesday night, along with his consistent banter about immigration and the questionable achievements of his two years in office, Trump unleashed the surprise of his 82-minute speech. "What's new about this is the laser focus of multi-agencies synergizing together on those areas", Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Wednesday."So this is something that has not been done before".

Researchers noted that will require working with groups that often shun health services, including injectable drug users. The office's landing page within the White House's website leads to a 404 error. Financial details of the new AIDS initiative are expected next month. The initiative's fate will depend on Congress, which will decide whether to fund the new proposal and, if so, by how much.

"The President's attacks on the Affordable Care Act and proposed cuts to non-defense discretionary spending have threatened to undermine our efforts to end the HIV epidemic", according to AIDS United's statement.

"The barriers to ending AIDS have always been a lack of investment in outreach and access", said James Hamblin, author of "If Our Bodies Could Talk".

At the inter-personal level, training and sensitization programmes for Self-Help Groups, Anganwadi workers, ASHA, members of Panchayati Raj Institutions and other key stakeholders are also being organised to spread awareness about treatment and other facilities, official sources here said. Trump's ten-year plan to fight against world's most risky disease will be a game changer for the Trump Administration because they haven't shown any vital importance to health sectors.

According to a report released last week by Global Health Policy, there are 25 million AIDS victims in 10 southern African countries - the largest concentration of victims on the planet. The program will also continue to provide case management, behavioral health, medical care, and support services, which Sigounas said are critical for engagement.
