The firm further stated at that time that the F-150 Hybrid would be built at Dearborn Truck in MI, and that the vehicle would "offer powerful towing and payload capacity and operate as a mobile generator".

"We're going to be electrifying the F-Series, battery electric and hybrid", Ford president of global markets Jim Farley was quoted by the Detroit Free Press during a conference in Detroit, adding the move would future-proof the truck. "We have the F-Series, the world and America's best-selling truck".

VW and Ford are also now co-developing commercial truck and medium-sized pickups with electric drivetrains and self-driving technology. Tesla has announced a truck, and details are nebulous, but the company has a record of fast, long-range EVs. There are also questions about where such a truck would be built and how much capacity Tesla has to build that truck.
