Chromecast Audio is officially discontinued and fully sold out

Google has confirmed that it is discontinuing its Chromecast Audio with what appears to be an immediate effect.

Perhaps part of it was simply consumer confusion or just an example of Google doing what Google does often: making something as a stop gap with zero thought given to that thing's eventual demise. The full list is much longer.

The big picture: Google's decision to discontinue Chromecast Audio isn't all that surprising considering its recent push into the smart speaker space.

At the same time, Google has seen its Home speakers, with cheapest Home Mini selling at a price of around Rs 4500, becoming more popular.

I suppose the writing was on the wall, wasn't it? .

For those who aren't aware, the Chromecast Audio dongle was created to attach to a regular speaker via a 3.5 mm audio cable, and pipe through audio from Chromecast-compatible apps on other devices - though if you haven't heard of the Chromecast Audio before now, you're a bit late to the party.

The good news is that Google is running out remaining stock on the Chromecast Audio for a insane cheap US$15. RUN... The company told Android Police it has stopped manufacturing the audio-only version of the Chromecast, so when the current stock runs out, the product will presumably be gone forever. I can't imagine that the world was ever flocking to buy these, but they did serve a objective for those with older speakers needing to be modernized. In India too, the Chromecast Audio is out of stock in most places. On the plus side, the company is offering a great deal as it gets rid of inventory: you can now buy the $35 dongle for just $15 on Google's website. When asked why this happened, customer service informed them that Google was killing the product so the purchase couldn't be fulfilled.
