Oklahoma Backup QB Austin Kendall Enters NCAA Transfer Portal

Kendall was, according to coach Lincoln Riley, "neck and neck" with Kyler Murray during their preseason battle.

Kendall, who still has two seasons of eligibility, could either choose to transfer or come back to Norman.

Rattler will be on the team next year but won't arrive until the summer, making it unlikely he'd be able to get into the mix to be the starter to begin next season with Murray nearly certain to leave for either professional baseball or football.

If Kendall does bolt, that leaves redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai and incoming five-star recruit Spencer Rattler as the only quarterbacks on the roster.

The Athletic reported Friday night that Kendall was not the only Sooners player in the database.

Kendall played backup to Heisman Trophy victor Baker Mayfield during his true freshman year before sitting out a redshirt season.

He completed 71 percent of his passes in 2018 for 122 yards and a touchdown in the 2018 season.

Kendall joins a plethora of other notable quarterbacks to recently enter into the transfer portal, including Jalen Hurts, Tate Martell and Shane Buechele.
