Piers Morgan has fans anxious after posting a photo of himself from a hospital bed on Twitter.

The outspoken columnist, who frequently stirs up controversy online, shocked his followers on Friday by sharing a photo of himself in the hospital.

While some fans were genuinely concerned about Piers, sending "get well soon" vibes, many saw the opportunity to give the polarising personality a taste of his own medicine - pardon the pun!

Piers Morgan has been admitted to hospital today - but couldn't resist jokingly apologising for "not dying". "I can only apologise for all the distress I know this will cause some people".

Morgan, 53, did not share any further details regarding his health or the reason for the tests.

According to United Kingdom publication The Mirror, Morgan will be back to work at Good Morning Britain on Monday, where he will also be making a statement about his health.

Last month, the father-of-four caused concern from viewers when he presented Good Morning Britain while battling a cold, which left him "sweating like a pig" and made up a poll for audiences to decide if he should call in sick. 'I only feel obliged because the viewers want to see me.

A rep for Morgan did not immediately return Fox News' request for comment. After Piers shared a story on mental health, writing: "Beverley Callard says celebs are trying to make mental health problems "fashionable".

"She'll be hammered for saying this, but it's 100% true", Morgan tweeted.
