It happened on Flight Path Drive in Brooksville, Florida Thursday afternoon.

Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport, formerly known as Hernando County Airport, is a joint civil-military public airport located 6 miles southwest of the central business district of Brooksville, a city in Hernando County.

Sheriff Al Nienhuis said Salvatore Disi "died nearly immediately" in the incident that took place at Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport.

Commenting on the accident, the sheriff's office said it believes the incident was not deliberate, on anyone's part, though they stressed police will fully investigate the case to see if a crime has been committed.

Nienhuis said at a news conference that there was no sign of foul play. A caller told 911 that he and Disi were working on the helicopter and using a power vehicle to jumpstart it.

As a result, one of the men was hit "in the head" by the chopper's main rotor blades and "was killed instantly", according to the sheriff's office.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board have been contacted, officials said.
