Man charged over plane passenger threat

The plane was taxiing to the runway at Auckland International Airport at the time and was forced to return to the gate.

A 19-year-old man has been charged this morning after being removed from a plane at Auckland Airport last night for making a "threatening comment". Fifita was questioned on board and later charged with providing false information about the safety of an aircraft.

The flight from Auckland to Sydney was cancelled following the comments, police say.

The Sydney-bound flight was cancelled as a result of the incident.

He typed "I have a bomb" because "I thought it was funny", the court heard.

A teenager accused of making a "threatening" comment on an global flight bound for Sydney has been charged following the incident.

Fifita was arrested by police and remanded in Mt Eden prison.

As an Australian citizen, Fifita faced either imprisonment or a fine.

Judge Anna Johns reportedly ordered he pay a $3000 reparation sum.

The total cost of Fifita's actions are estimated to be tens of thousands of dollars.
