"In our great country and our great state we are governed by the rule of law", Lagoa said.

DeSantis, a Harvard Law School graduate who served as a judge advocate in the Navy and who was sworn into office on Tuesday, hailed Lagoa as "the essence of what a judge should be".

Justice Lagoa is a Cuban-American from Hialeah, Florida, where her parents instilled in her an appreciation of the freedoms enjoyed in the United States.

"Similarly to them taking me by auto, FDLE does have a plane that was seized", DeSantis said.

"Equality Florida is deeply disappointed to see that LGBTQ employees and contractors have been left out of the Governor's executive order", said Joe Saunders, Senior Political Director for Equality Florida. His removal would come less than two months after former Gov. Rick Scott suspended Broward elections supervisor Brenda Snipes over his frustrations with the midterm recount. "I will only appoint judges who understand the proper role of the courts is to apply the law and Constitution as written, not to legislate from the bench".

"I couldn't be more honored to appoint you", the governor told Lagoa as her parents, husband, in-laws and three daughters looked on.

Justice Lagoa has received numerous awards, including the "Outstanding Women of Color" award from the Black Law Student Association and the Caribbean Law Student Association at St. Thomas Law School.

She is the first Hispanic woman in history to serve on the Florida Supreme Court. "That's a game changer and that's why these appointments are so consequential", said Sayfie, who was an adviser to Gov. Jeb Bush. The site is highly symbolic for Cuban-Americans because so many immigrants who fled the communist reign of Cuban leader Fidel Castro were processed into the USA through that building.

Barbara Lagoa was born in Miami, Florida in 1967.

Still, public outrage has been vast over Israel's handling of the Parkland shooting, where 17 students and faculty members were killed and another 17 wounded by a former student who came onto campus with a high-powered rifle.

In 2003, Barbara joined the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida in Miami as an Assistant United States Attorney, where she worked until her appointment to the bench in 2006.

"I share the governor's concern that in recent years the power of the judicial branch has extended beyond its limited constitutional responsibility, in many cases eroding the authority of the legislative branch", Galvano said.

The commission also took issue with Israel's decision to change the agency's active shooter policy so that deputies "may" confront an active shooter, rather than "shall", and found gaps in law enforcement's response to dozens of calls and reports about shooter Nikolas Cruz's troubling behavior. I believe democracy is at its best when each branch of government exercises both authority and restraint at the appropriate time. Cantero and current Justice Jorge Labarga are Cuban-Americans.
