The trailer picked up 289 million views in the first 24 hours after surfacing on Friday morning, the company said in a Saturday tweet. Marvel announced the news by thanking "the greatest fans in the world", all of whom were definitely super patient and not at all close to rioting in the streets during the long lead-up to the trailer launch. "Infinity War" ended up on a shocking cliffhanger, with the villain Thanos succeeding in his quest to eliminate half the universe's population. "Avengers" films are often anticipated, but the so-called deaths of so many characters has turned "Endgame" into even more of an event.

The film's predecessor, "Avengers: Infinity War." held the previous 24-hour viewing record with 230 million views, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

It was only a few weeks ago that Disney broke records with the first official teaser for their live action version of THE LION KING, which reined in around 224.6 million views in a single day. "We're talking about the safest box office bet since Avengers: Infinity War itself and the recent episodic Star Wars films".

Marvel has seen fit to bless the world and break the internet with the release of the trailer and title reveal for Avengers 4, now formally known as Avengers: Endgame.
