On Thursday morning, at the East Point and Douglasville locations of the retail store, Perry paid off the entire Walmart layaway department.

A tweet from Tyler Perry announced the kind move, as the actor known for his famous "Madea" franchise confirmed he was paying off $434,000 worth of layaway orders in Georgia. News that Perry donated $432,635 to the stores.

Perry said he had planned to remain anonymous, but "due to some circumstances" news of the generous act leaked, and he made a decision to post a video on Twitter revealing which stores' layaway tabs he paid. "The heartfelt excitement and joy we're seeing from our customers as a result of his holiday gift has been touching". Putting an item on layaway allows customers to make small payments on items until they pay in full and can retrieve their product.

A Walmart manager at the Douglasville location told the Atlanta Journal Constitution that while she'd seen good samaritans pay off the occasional account, she'd never seen anyone pay off the entire department in one go. "I know it's hard times".

"Talk about a Merry Christmas!" "I'm just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this, so God bless you, go get your stuff". Tyler Perry just reminded everyone of the true meaning of the season. Her husband and the team's former owner, Tom Benson, passed away in March.
