Burger King trolls McDonald’s with penny Whopper deal

Flashback: Burger King launched a separate promotion last week where its Twitter account tweeted out straight up gibberish, according to Business Insider.

The promotion was created by wrapping geofences around McDonald's restaurants and asking customers to drive within 600 feet of the location to qualify for a special deal. But, and here comes the sneaky part, customers have to be using the Burger King app to order - and be at a McDonald's.

A new Burger King marketing promotion known as the "Whopper Detour" is sending McDonald's customers to the nearest Burger King with the promise of 1-cent Whoppers.

In a statement, Burger King explained how the promotion, which it is calling the "Whopper detour", works within 600 feet of any McDonald's restaurant.

If a customer steps inside a McDonald's restaurant, the app will unlock a Whopper sandwich for a penny.

Another person wrote: 'Somebody's getting fired'.

The offer is good until December 12 so you've got time, but the deal can only be redeemed one time per registered user at participating locations. It also created a mixtape blasting McDonald's, Burger King and other chains earlier this year.
