The 2018 World Series champion Boston Red Sox have been invited to the White House and will accept the invitation, team president Sam Kennedy announced Monday.

Team visits to the White House after winning a championship have been routine since the 1980s.

"It's an invitation for the players, ownership, so it's a great opportunity for those guys to go to the White House and get the behind-the-scenes tour and get the recognition they deserve for a world championship".

Teams have visited the White House for almost four decades after winning championships, but that custom has changed since Trump took office.

"Yes, there will be a positive revenue impact for the team - how much I don't know - but that is absolutely secondary in my opinion to the engagement, to people following, paying attention, being engaged with the Boston Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and Celtics as a result of betting on that sport and betting on in-game activities".

The Red Sox, who defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 4 games to 1 on October 31, earlier won baseball titles in 2004 and 2007. "Actually, I'm gonna represent 4 million people from back home the right way when we go there".

A native of Puerto Rico, Cora has been vocal in his call for the president to do more in the wake of Hurricane Maria that devastated the island. This is about a country that really suffered. You see the hurricanes forming now. Everybody's panicking. It's not easy. Like, do we need help?

'It's a little bit, kind of like, frustrating that the topic keeps coming and coming and coming, ' Cora continued. 'What's the point, honestly? He's the president of the United States.

"We're working through logistics right now", said Kennedy.

Several players on the Golden State Warriors said they would not go to the White House after winning the National Basketball Association title in 2017, so Trump rescinded the invitation for the entire team. On June 6, when the Philadelphia Eagles attempted to send a delegation of only a few players, the White House canceled the visit. 'It won't be Golden State or Cleveland going'.

On Monday, Cora said he will attend the ceremony in the White House.

The Houston Astros, who won the 2017 World Series, visited the White House in March.
