Children's National is proud to have been recognized as a Top Children's Hospital 10 times and has received this distinction the most out of any other pediatric hospital since 2007.

UC San Diego's Hillcrest medical center is one of the best teaching hospitals in the country, according to a compilation of top hospitals released Tuesday by a watchdog group.

Leapfrog Group, which compiles report cards for hospitals nationwide twice a year, recently ranked the 50 states based on the percentage of hospitals that it had given an A.

Two hospitals in MI received the Top Rural Hospital award: OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba and Spectrum Health Gerber Memorial in Fremont.

Joseph's University Medical Center were recognized in the Teaching Hospitals category. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, Leapfrog's other main initiative assigns letter grades to hospitals based on their record of patient safety, helping consumers protect themselves and their families from errors, injuries, accidents and infections.

To determine its 118 Top Hospital award winners, Leapfrog considered performance across numerous areas of hospital care, including infection rates, medication safety and inpatient care management.

To qualify for the Top Hospitals distinction, hospitals must submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey and achieve highest performance in its category. The selection of Top Hospitals 2018 is based on surveys from almost 1,900 hospitals.

Henry Ford placed three of its hospitals on the Leapfrog teaching hospital list, including Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township and Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital.

The award is named for Steven Schroeder, MD, former president and CEO of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation who is a Distinguished Professor of Health and Health Care at the University of California San Francisco. "Being named a Top Hospital is a rewarding reflection of the work our physicians and staff do, and the exceptional care they provide for those we serve".

Leah Binder, president and CEO of Leapfrog, said there is some random fluctuation in patient safety scores, but a few states have seen sustained improvement.

"With this honor, Phoenix Children's has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care". Providing this level of care to patients in Richmond County requires motivation and drive from every team member. For more information, follow us on Facebook and Twitter.
