As the Nation continues to mourn the passing of former President George H.W. Bush, many government offices will be closed Wednesday for a national day of mourning.

Wednesday's national funeral service caps three days of remembrance by dignitaries and ordinary citizens.

When the casket was brought in, all attendees were seen standing with their hands on their hearts.

Here are photos from the somber event.

The Bush family joined President Trump and all former living former presidents, as well as world leaders and other distinguished guests, at the Washington National Cathedral. Both Trumps shook hands with the Obamas, but President Trump did not offer his hand to the Clintons.

Dole, 95, once faced Bush during the 1988 Republican primary fight for the presidential nomination but nonetheless maintained a decades-old friendship with the former president.

Once seated, President Trump shook the hand of his predecessor and then reached over Melania and former President Obama to shake the hand of Michelle Obama, who appeared to give something of a half smile and say "good morning" before leaning back.

When former president George W. Bush - the late Bush's son - arrived, he came over to shake all the former presidents' hands.
