Over 1000 players register for IPL 12 auctions

A total of 1,003 players have registered themselves for the 70 spots available in the eight IPL franchises for the upcoming auction which will be held on December 18 in Jaipur.

While the newest addition are players from the Northeastern states, Uttarakhand and Bihar, there will also be 232 overseas players, who have thrown their hat in the ring. However, the highest players registered are from South Africa (59).

Earlier, during the retention period, which ended on November 15, many franchises came up with surprises, releasing their crucial players ahead of the auctions. Apart from these, one player each from USA, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands have signed up.Of the 1003 players, 800 are uncapped, with 746 of those from India.

Afghanistan, after gaining the Test status, received a huge gain having 27 cricketers registered for the auction.

Sri Lanka (28), New Zealand (17), England (14), Bangladesh (10) and Zimbabwe (5) are the other countries that have seen registrations.

As the tournament prepares to enter its 12th edition, Hugh Edmeades, an independent fine art, classic auto and charity auctioneer will be the new gavel master.

Franchises will now have time until 5:00 PM IST, Monday 10th December to submit their shortlist of players that will make up the final VIVO IPL 2019 Player Auction list.
