The James Wan-produced reboot of the hit video game film franchise, Resident Evil, has just found its writer and director in the form of Johannes Roberts, the man behind the 2017 survival horror hit 47 Meters Down, according to Variety.

Roberts is now at work on 47 Meters Down: The Next Chapter (should have been 48 Meters Down, which is one meter scarier), but it will be interesting to see what he does with Resident Evil and trying to leave his own mark on the long-running series. The previous films starred Milla Jovovich and grossed over one billion dollars worldwide, though critically they took quite a battering. This news suggests the production company isn't moving forward with the script from Greg Russo, who recently teased how Resident Evil 7 influenced his draft. If by that it means it'll be horror-focussed, then great, as Jovovich's films were anything but that.

What do you hope to see from the Resident Evil reboot?

The six Resident Evil movies so far were Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Extinction, Resident Evil: Afterlife, Resident Evil: Retribution, and Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
