Lyon set Nabil Fekir deadline as Liverpool rumours continue

After staying put for this season, Lyon have now issued the 25-year-old with a deadline to make a decision on his future.

Fekir was close to joining Liverpool back in the summer, only for a knee problem to be detected during his medical.

Liverpool looked to have a deal for Lyon playmaker Nabil Fekir all sewn up before the Frenchman flew off to the World Cup, only for their last-ditch demand to lower the asking price to scupper the plan.

Fekir's contract will have just 18 months to run on it come January and Lyon boss Jean-Michel Aulas has told the player to make a decision.

There has been confusion at Lyon as to who is representing their midfielder.

Lyon want Nabil Fekir to give 'clear and precise position' on future

Despite most in-the-know journalists suggesting that Liverpool will not reignite their interest in the 2018 World Cup victor, the rumour fires continue to burn, with some still convinced Jurgen Klopp is still keen to add one more attacking player to his team.

"For the moment, we haven't really got into a real discussion, even though we met three weeks ago", Aulas said.

"The sorting out of certain things regarding the question of his agent is underway. Jean-Pierre Bernes is still his agent, but he might not be between now and the end of his contract".

Lyon are still hopeful of agreeing a new contract with their skipper but if not they may be forced to sell at a knockdown fee in order to avoid losing the player for nothing in 2020.

If Fekir doesn't sign an extended deal, his transfer value is only going to decrease and that is in turn only going to strengthen Liverpool's position in any negotiations.
