According to CNN, Pyongyang has upgraded the Yeongjeo-dong missile base in North Korea´s mountainous interior and has built up another facility that had not previously been publicly identified.

The second site appears to be a new facility, although experts that CNN talked to from the Middlebury Institute speculated that the new site may be part of the Yeongjeo-dong base.

These steps have triggered a fierce backlash from many conservatives in South Korea, who argue that South Korea's liberal government led by President Moon Jae-in should not have agreed to such conventional arms reduction programmes at a time when North Korea's nuclear threats remain unchanged.

Trump said on Saturday he hoped to hold a second meeting with Kim early next year and USA national security adviser John Bolton said the lack of progress with North Korea made a second summit necessary, likely to be held in January or February.

The South Korean government, which dismissed previous United States media reports about North Korea's undeclared missile bases as "nothing new", said the Yeongjeo-dong missile base has always been on the surveillance list of the South Korean and USA militaries. -North Korea summit, on Sentosa island in Singapore on June 12.

"We watch North Korea very closely", Pentagon spokesperson Lt. Col. Chris Logan told CNN.

The site's location makes it a strong candidate to receive North Korea's newest long-range missiles, including those that can carry nuclear weapons, according to Lewis and colleague David Schmerler, CNN reported.

North Korea had announced the testing of an unspecified "newly developed ultramodern weapon" amid reports that it was continuing to develop its nuclear and missiles programs.

National Security Advisor John Bolton said Tuesday that Trump thinks the North Korean strongman hasn´t met the commitments he made at the Singapore summit.

The State Department declined to comment to the news outlet.
